Vienna man indicted for allegedly firing gun near home (2024)

AUGUSTA — A Kennebec County grand jury has indicted a Vienna man on several charges after he allegedly fired a gun near a home, smashed a window on a deputy sheriff’s cruiser and kicked a game warden.

On May 16, Robert Locke, 37, allegedly discharged a gun near a residence, and his neighbors reported he was honking a horn and yelling at them. At the time, the neighbors had a protection from harassment order in place against Locke, according to the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Brandon Van Wyk arrested Locke and placed him in the back of a cruiser. Locke then allegedly brought his handcuffed hands in front of himself and broke out a window. He was then removed from the vehicle and resecured. During that struggle, police said Locke kicked Game Warden Ethan Buuck.

Police obtained a search warrant and searched Locke’s home, finding bullet holes, spent cartridges and several firearms inside. The guns were seized, police said.

Locke was indicted on several charges tied to the incident, including criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, aggravated criminal mischief, assault and two counts of violation of a protective order.

An indictment is not a determination of guilt, but indicates there is enough evidence to proceed toward trial.
