Is met membership worth it? ›

The following items are not allowed in the building or at coat check: Large bags, luggage, musical instruments, electronics, and oversize camera equipment. Glass containers, jars, aerosol cans, and liquids other than water. Food and drink (other than water in a secure bottle or for medical reasons).

There is a coat check at the museum where you can leave your outerwear as well as a small bag if you need to, but be aware there are often long queues. The coat check doesn't accept large bags for storage so you'll need to do that off-site before arriving.

$30 for adults; $22 for seniors; $17 for students. Free for Members, Patrons, children under 12, and a caregiver accompanying a visitor with a disability. The Met Dining Room

What to expect: Enjoy elevated table service dining with a seasonal modern American menu and views of Central Park. Use OpenTable, call (212) 570-3975 or email TheMetDiningRoom@metmuseum.org to book your preferred date and time. Dinner is served on Friday and Saturday only.

There is no dress code at the Met, but a night at the opera can be a great excuse to get dressed up.

To reduce staff contact with guest belongings, we have implemented the following bag policy: ALL BAGS OVER 12″x12″x6″ ARE PROHIBITED. All bags are subject to search upon entry. Guests have the right to refuse a bag search and the venue has the right to refuse entry.

Wednesday and Thursday mornings are often less busy than other times of the week. In general, mornings are less busy than afternoons and evenings. There is plenty to see and do in the galleries at the south end of the Museum, near the 81st Street entrance.

Can I bring a water bottle to the Met? ›

You may bring water bottles and baby bottles into the galleries. Strollers, with the exception of oversized and jogging strollers, are permitted in most galleries.

The Met is open 7 days a week, 9:30am to 5:30pm (until 9pm on Friday and Saturday). Closed Thanksgiving Day, December 25, January 1, and the first Monday in May.

I don't know if it's worth that — the lower category, Friend, costs $275 and membership for those withing a 200-mile radius starts at $70.
