Tornadoes have been documented in every U.S. state (not including the non-state territories of Guam, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and Puerto Rico) at least once since 1950, although some regions and states are hit by tornadoes far more than others.

A barometric reading over 30.20 inHg is generally considered high, and high pressure is associated with clear skies and calm weather. A barometric reading below 29.80 inHg is generally considered low, and low pressure is associated with warm air and rainstorms.

The wearing down of the cartilage within the joint that occurs with osteoarthritis exposes nerve endings which pick up pressure changes resulting in pain. Barometric pressure changes cause expansion and contraction of the ligaments, tendon, and cartilage within the joint and this causes the increase in pain.

On January 19, 1994, 30 years ago yesterday in the wake of the historic snowfall, Louisville recorded a temperature of -22ºF. Shelbyville recorded a low temperature of -37ºF which set the low temperature record for the Commonwealth.

This tornado struck downtown Louisville around noon on Sunday, August 27th, 1854. It first touched down near 25th Street southwest of downtown, and lifted at the intersection of 5th and Main Streets. Although the tornado was only on the ground for 2 ¼ miles, the twister claimed at least 25 lives.

Notes: This was one of the worst tornadoes ever to strike Lexington. The tornado began in the vicinity of Tates Creek Road and Man O War Boulevard. A barn was destroyed near the intersection of Wilson Downing Road and Tates Creek Road.
