Checking and Replacing Fuses in Jeep Liberty

Caution!

  • When replacing a blown fuse, it is important to use only a fuse having the correct amperage rating. The use of a fuse with a rating other than indicated may result in a dangerous electrical system overload. If a properly rated fuse continues to blow, it indicates a problem in the circuit that must be corrected.
  • When installing the Integrated Power Module cover, it is important to ensure the cover is properly positioned and fully latched. Failure to do so may allow water to get into the Integrated Power Module, and possibly result in an electrical system failure.

Location of the Fuse Box

The Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) is located in the engine compartment near the battery. This center contains cartridge fuses, mini fuses and relays. A label that identifies each component is printed on the inside of the cover.Fuse Box Diagrams Jeep Liberty (KK; 2008-2012) - Fusesinfo.com (2)

FAQs

Why does my 2012 Jeep Liberty say no fuse? ›

If your seeing the " No Fuse" in the dash it's telling you that the modules are not seeing voltage on the IOD fuse which is the J13 you replaced.. Since you have a new fuse in and it's still not working can you grab a test light and tell me if it has 12v on both terminals at the top of the fuse when it's inserted.

Where can I find fuse diagram for my car? ›

To locate the fuse specification chart for your vehicle or to learn how to change a fuse, refer to the "Fuses" section of your Owner's Manual.

Where are the interior fuses? ›

Usually, you will find two fuse boxes in the car. One is located under the hood and the other is found in the dashboard or near the steering wheel.

What fuse causes a car not to start? ›

A blown fuse in the starter circuit could be the cause of a no-start problem. Broken or corroded wiring – Damaged or dirty wires to the battery or to the starter solenoid (or wires that are loose) can prevent sufficient power from reaching the starter.

What is ECM fuse? ›

An ECM, or Electronic Control Module, is an automotive computer module, and a direct application of battery or alternator power to the ECM module may damage the module, so the power circuit is “fused”, has a fuse in the power line.

How do you tell which fuse is which? ›

Generally the manufacturer's brand name and the actual part number should be enough to identify the right fuse.

What are the fuses underneath the hood? ›

The fuses under the hood help protect electrical components such as electric motor and brake functions. To access the fuses under the hood, a number of panels around the storage compartment must be removed.

How do I know what fuses my car needs? ›

The most straightforward is to inspect the fuse itself, where the amperage rating is typically noted on or near the top of the fuse. The second is to check the fuse diagram in the vehicle, to understand which fuse type is in each slot.

Where is the ignition relay fuse? ›

Q: Where Is the Ignition Relay Typically Located? A: The ignition relay is in charge of switching power to both the ignition system and the fuel system once a vehicle's key is turned. The ignition relay (when equipped) is typically found inside the vehicle's fuse box.

Which fuse is for a cigarette lighter? ›

Some panels include several spare fuses. If this is the case, pick out a spare that is an exact match in size, color, and labeling—cigarette lighters, for example, usually use 20 amp fuses that have “20A” printed on top.

Which fuse powers the dashboard lights? ›

The instrument cluster fuse manages the dashboard gauge of a vehicle. It uses electricity from the car battery to power various electronic components of the dashboard such as the different warning lights, gauges, and alarm systems.

Where is the secondary fuse box? ›

In most cases, the main fuse box is situated under the hood, near the battery, while secondary panels can be found in the passenger compartment, often hidden behind a removable panel.

Where are the fuses in my fuse box? ›

Your fuse box will have two sets of fuses. At the bottom will be 15-amp and 20-amp screw-in fuses with glass faces that are exposed and visible. These fuses will service branch light circuits and outlet circuits. At the top will be 30-amp or 40-amp cartridge main fuses for ovens, laundry rooms, or stoves.

What fuses are under the instrument panel? ›

The fuses for your instrument panel lights and the gauge cluster should be located under the dashboard or behind a panel near the driver's side door.

What does it mean when my car says no fuse? ›

The no fuse indicator gives an indication to the vehicle operator when the Ignition Off Draw (IOD) fuse is ineffective or is not installed. This indicator is controlled by the instrument cluster logic circuit based upon cluster programming and electronic messages received over the CAN data bus from the TIPM.

What does "no fuse" mean on a Jeep? ›

It seems like the most likely cause is corrosion in the IOD (ignition off draw) fuse contacts in the fusebox under the hood. Sometimes all you need to do is remove and re-seat the fuse. Of course, if it is blown you need to replace it but, then you may also need to look for a short somewhere.

What if there is no fuse? ›

If there is a fusholder, but no fuse within it, then the circuit is incomplete and no current will flow. The circuit is 'dead' If the circuit has been built without a fuseholder, then it will be live and will work normally but without any protection from an overload or a defect.
